"Golden Axe" is a classic side-scrolling beat 'em up action game released by Sega in 1989.
"Golden Axe" stood out in the arcade era with its smooth two-player cooperative mode and innovative magic system. During the game, players not only had to use basic slash and jump attacks to clear hordes of enemies, but also could release powerful elemental magic (such as fire, ice, and lightning) by collecting "magic bottles". Each character's magic effects and power are different, adding strategy to the combat. A hallmark feature of the game is that players can ride various beasts (such as dragons or chicken dragons) and use the beasts' special abilities (such as breathing fire or tail whip) to fight, and these beasts may be taken away after being attacked. The game's graphics and music are full of epic fantasy style, laying the foundation for Sega's position in the side-scrolling action game field.
In addition to the normal slash, each character has a dash attack (→→ + Attack) and jump down attack (Jump + ↓ + Attack). The dash attack is an effective way to quickly advance and create stiffening; the jump down attack is a sharp weapon to deal with enemies on the ground or create area damage in a melee. Skillfully mastering and interspersing the use of these special attacks can form more effective combos and prevent enemies from besieging.
Magic is the most powerful clearing method in the game, but the resources of magic bottles are limited and must be used with caution.
Beast mounts (such as: chicken dragons, fire-breathing dragons) can provide additional attack methods and a safer combat environment.
Dwarves carrying bags will appear during the intermission of levels or in specific scenes. These dwarves will drop magic bottles or food (recovery) after being knocked down. When you see them, be sure to chase and attack quickly, as this is an important source of resource replenishment.
