Game Details:

In the arcades of its time, Chase H.Q. stood out with its unique "pursuit" gameplay. Unlike a standard lap race, the game is divided into two phases: first, the "Pursuit Phase," where the player must reach the suspect's vehicle within a time limit; and then the "Takedown Phase," where the player must violently ram the criminal's car until its damage meter is full, forcing it to stop.

The game utilized advanced pseudo-3D scaling technology for its era, creating an excellent sense of speed. During the chase, players must skillfully dodge civilian traffic and roadside obstacles while using a limited number of "Turbo" boosts to close the distance or execute a powerful ram. Beyond its impressive visuals, the classic voice line, “This is Nancy at Chase HQ,” remains a nostalgic childhood memory for countless veteran players.

Strategy Guide:

  • Turbo Usage Strategy: You have a very limited number of Turbos per stage (usually 3). Do not waste them carelessly on straightaways during the Pursuit Phase. The best time to use them is after entering the Takedown Phase. Once the criminal's car is in sight, use a Turbo for a massive burst of speed to deliver a devastating ram. The damage dealt this way is far greater than a normal collision.
  • Route Selection and Overtaking: Traffic density increases in later stages. It's recommended to stay slightly to the left of the center lane, as this gives you more room to react to sudden forks in the road. On turns, try to take an "outside-inside-outside" racing line to minimize speed loss, because the game ends immediately if you run out of time.
  • Handling Suspect Counterattacks: Criminals in later stages are not only faster but will also try to interfere by swerving erratically or throwing obstacles (like grenades or oil barrels). During these moments, don't rush to ram them repeatedly. Instead, stabilize your car, look for an opening in their swerving pattern, and hit them with a diagonal ram from the side-rear. This tactic not only deals high damage but is also effective at preventing them from knocking you off the road.
  • Time Bonuses: Reaching checkpoints or successfully apprehending the criminal will award you with extra time. If you waste too much time in the first phase, you likely won't have enough time left in the second phase to ram the target to a stop, even if you manage to catch up. Therefore, a flawless pursuit is fundamental to clearing the stage.
