This installment features a quantum leap in graphical fidelity compared to its predecessor, with more distinct character designs. The moveset system introduces special moves similar to fighting games, such as "down-up + attack" inputs, as well as grappling throws. The game's campaign covers classic story arcs from the Battle of Bowangpo and the Battle of Xinye to the final confrontation at Changban and the Huarong Trail. In addition to on-foot combat, players can also fight on horseback, and hidden weapons like the Holy Sword and Kusanagi Sword that drop in stages add significant replayability for collectors. The game also features fun mini-games, such as timed meat-eating challenges and car-smashing bonus stages, which help to break up the intense combat pace. Its excellent balance and satisfying combat feedback have kept it popular on various emulator platforms to this day.
