Game Details:

Spider-Man: Web of Fire was developed by BlueSky Software and Zono, and published by Sega. It was one of the last games released on the Sega 32X platform. Due to the commercial failure of the platform, the game had a very limited production run, making it a valuable collector's item. The game is set in New York City, where the Hydra organization uses high-tech devices to trap the city in a deadly "Web of Fire". Players need to control Spider-Man and traverse different scenes, including streets, building interiors, and sewers, to fight against Hydra's minions and various famous Marvel villains (such as Shocker, Viper, and the Hydra leader). The game adopts the classic 2D side-scrolling action platformer mode, emphasizing action and platforming elements. In addition to basic attacks and jumping, Spider-Man also has the ability to shoot webs to trap enemies or swing from webs at high places, and can activate a special ability to summon the superhero Daredevil to help clear the screen in critical moments.

Game Guide:

Although Spider-Man: Web of Fire is an old-school 2D action game, its level design and resource allocation still require some strategy. This guide will focus on basic operations and resource management.

1. Combat Techniques and Web Utilization

  • Basic Combos: Spider-Man's punches and kicks are the main means of output. Pressing the attack button quickly can trigger combos. Please note that some enemies, especially those wearing armor in the later stages, require longer combos or jump attacks to be effectively defeated.
  • Jump Attacks: Pressing the attack button after jumping can perform an air kick, which is not only an effective attack method but also helps you avoid ground traps or enemy low attacks.
  • Web Shooting: Webs are precious resources that can be used to temporarily trap enemies. When facing multiple enemies or difficult-to-deal-with strong enemies, using webs can give you a chance to catch your breath or defeat them one by one. Please make reasonable use of web supply packs and do not waste them casually.

2. Resource Management and Daredevil's Assistance

  • Health Management: The game provides few health replenishments, and they are usually hidden in hidden locations or require defeating specific enemies to obtain. Avoid unnecessary damage as much as possible, especially before Boss battles.
  • Web Resources: Web ammunition depletes quickly, but it is key to navigating certain platform obstacles (web-swinging) and controlling the battle. Unless urgently needed, do not waste too much on ordinary small monsters.
  • Daredevil's Assistance: This is the game's special ability, which can clear all small monsters on the screen and damage the Boss. This ability is extremely limited in use in the game (usually obtained through specific power-up items). **It is recommended to reserve it for more difficult Boss battles, or when facing desperate situations where the screen is occupied by a large number of enemies.** It's most effective when the Boss's health is low, or when you need to interrupt the Boss's key skills.

3. Level Exploration and Trap Handling

  • Platform Jumping: Many levels have complex platforms and environmental traps, such as electricity, flames, and spikes. Mastering the distance and timing of web-swinging is crucial. Web-swinging requires predicting the landing point to ensure you can grab the next platform.
  • Secrets and Supplies: Many levels have hidden health or web supplies. Try attacking suspicious walls or boxes, or exploring seemingly unreachable corners. Careful exploration often provides you with endurance.
  • Boss Battles: Each major level Boss has a fixed attack pattern. Carefully observe the Boss's warning actions and find the attack intervals to counterattack. For example, when dealing with Shocker, there will be a short period of stiffening for you to output after he releases shockwaves. Utilizing destructible or usable elements in the scene may also create an advantage for you.
